Sierra del Vallejo Tour Details
In the northern area of Banderas Bay there is an area of special interest, as one of the last refuges of the monumental fauna of our country: the Sierra de Vallejo. This tropical forest is the northernmost in the continent and one of the best conserved forests of the Pacific coast. Thanks to the efforts of several civil associations, this was declared a protected natural area in 2004, allowing the conservation of its diversity of plants and animals.
This region includes predominant vegetation of low tropical forests, being also the largest in the Pacific coast. The vegetation in these forests is mainly sub-deciduous and deciduous type. All this makes it an excellent option for bird watching lovers, since some of the bird species reported for Sierra de Vallejo are the trogons, the orange-breasted bunting, the birds of prey (eagles, hawks), the beautiful magpie jay, blue mockingbird, endemic chachalacas, painted bunting, as well as various species of flycatchers and warblers, among others. Undoubtedly, it is a place that cannot miss any birdwatcher who visits the area of Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay.
